Equality

In a word, I think that equality is the one most important thing that I learned from my Anawim experience. No matter who we are or where we come from, ultimately we are all the same. Especially so for kids.

Through my Anawim experience, I was able to see how equal we all are and how unfairly members of the same society receive resources. It was a good experience for me to see exactly how unfair the situation for some people is and has motivated me to try and fix the situation. I think that this knowledge and recognition has allowed me to grow as a person and become more willing to fight for others and more knowledgeable about what they need.

The most important connection that my Anawim project allowed me to make was the connection between spirits of the air around poverty and the educational system. Since the majority of society holds these unfounded beliefs, it results in the perpetuation of a system that does not need to exist. People make these assumptions, that these children who are no different than any other will not amount to much, and in turn force these children to be limited by powers beyond their control, which was the most important thing that I learned and want to change.
